Clarence R. “Coonie” Maley, 92 of Chicora, Pennsylvania died in Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Butler, PA. on Tuesday December 29, 2020. He was born in Butler, PA. May 9, 1928 the son of the late Clarence L. Maley and the late Mae Schultz Maley.
He worked for Berry Metal Co. in Harmony, PA for 36 years as Top Machinist and built the O2 lance. He was a well-known piano player, “Sing-A-Long with Coonie.” He was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora. He was an ARMY veteran of the Korean War earning the rank of Corporal in CO. G 32nd Infantry Regiment 7th Division receiving 5 medals, 2 Bronze Stars and received a Sharp-Shooting medal. He was a life-time member of Parker VFW Post 7073 and the Chicora American Legion, Post 642. He had served at Heartbreak Ridge. He was a member of the Chicora Moose Lodge 962, and a member of the Chicora Senior Center.
Coonie is survived by his loving wife Helen Buzzard Maley, whom he married November 1, 1952.
He is survived by a daughter JoAnn and Bill Snyder of Butler; a son Ronald and Vickie Maley of Chicora; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; a brother; Glenn Maley of Fairview and a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Maley, who died in 2018.
Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2021 at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, downtown Chicora, PA.
A mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Mater Dolorosa Church, 409 North Main Street, Chicora, PA. with Father Matt McClain officiating.
Military Honors will be provided by: Chicora and Brady’s Bend, American Legion.
Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora, PA.
