The City of Butler is asking residents to participate in a new event that could help improve how the city looks, as well as reduce flooding issues.
“Clean Curb Saturday” will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Butler City Councilman Jeff Smith introduced the idea at Thursday’s council meeting. It centers around removing the grass growing out along city streets and curbs.
“Not only is it unattractive, but it can decrease the water flow,” Smith said.
The city is asking people to go outside on Aug. 31 and clean-up the grass on their property.
“Take five minutes and pull that grass up,” he said.
The city does not have enough Streets and Parks Department employees to get this work done all over the city, but Smith says residents working together to cover their own areas could make a big difference in helping to improve storm-water issues.
