Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official is alerting residents about a recent bankruptcy filing in Ohio that could affect the availability of fuel this winter.
According to Attorney General Josh Shapiro, Thrifty Propane closed its doors and ceased operations at the end of October. In addition to Ohio residents, many Pennsylvania customers could be impacted.
Many Thrifty Propane customers were asked to pre-pay for propane services but now will be forced to purchase propane from another supplier. Alternative suppliers can be found through the website of the Pennsylvania Propane Gas Association (PAPropane.com).
Anyone who has been impacted by this situation is asked to file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection online or over the phone. If residents used a credit card to pay Thrifty Propane, those charges should be disputed immediately.
Assistance for low-income households to pay heating bills continues to be available through the LIHEAP program.
