A county commissioner is responding after some residents have expressed frustration at the seasonal closure of a local dog park.
Leslie Osche said in a statement that Jade’s Dog Park is closed during winter months because Alameda Park does not have winter maintenance. Osche says that was a decision made by a previous board of commissioners.
She adds that while the park remains open for activities like walking and running during the winter, the park’s gates are closed. That means access to the dog park is limited.
County officials say that can cause safety issues, which is why the park was closed. Osche says she understands the frustration and is hoping to work toward a solution.
She says that the county is putting together a new park comprehensive plan and seeking input from the community. A public meeting will be held on the subject on February 21st at 11 a.m. at the Butler Township Park.
