A committee led by a local lawmaker will meet Wednesday to consider two bills- including one that would help new farmers get started.
In his role as Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, state Senator Scott Hutchinson will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the East Wing of the State Capitol Complex in Harrisburg.
Senate Bill 478, sponsored by Senator Elder Vogel, would provide a personal income tax credit for landowners who lease or sell their land, buildings or equipment to new farmers.
“My legislation (Senate Bill 478) provides a personal income tax credit for landowners who lease or sell their land, buildings and equipment to beginning farmers,” said Senator Vogel, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee and operates a family farm in Beaver County that was established in the late 1800s. “The number one concern faced by new farmers is finding affordable farmland. My bill provides a tangible incentive for landowners to help new farmers.”
The second bill- which is introduced by Senator Hutchinson- would clarify the Sales and Use Tax regarding customized software, financial institution security equipment, and information retrieval services.
The meeting will be streamed live online.
