With the holiday shopping season now in full swing, a nationwide effort is happening Saturday to bring the focus on local retailers.
It’s known as Small Business Saturday and it was created to help emphasize shopping at local stores. The National Federation of Independent Business says that last year Americans spent $18 billion on the day.
Butler Downtown is marking the 14th year of the designation with a Passport Event during which visitors will be able to stop by businesses from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a chance to win prizes as well as take advantage of special sales.
Many other communities around the area are offering promotions and encouraging holiday shoppers to visit local stores this weekend.
