A longtime community member and philanthropist in Butler has died.
Jean Purvis passed away Sunday at her home in Butler. She helped establish the Butler Visiting Nursing Association and served on the board of directors.
Purvis was inspired to provide free medical care to adults without health insurance or access to health care, which led her to push Butler community leaders to establish the Community Health Clinic, which opened in 2008. Ten years later, the center was named in her honor.
She won many awards for her public service and also served on a number of boards—including the Butler School Board.
Purvis was also described as an avid reader and golfer—including two hole-in-ones, the latest coming at age 89.
Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home.
Purvis was 98.
