There’s still time for local young artists to submit their work to possibly get it displayed in a special exhibit in the U.S. Capitol.
According to U.S. Representatives Mike Kelly of the 16th Congressional District and Glenn G.T. Thompson of the 15th District, after going virtual last year due to the pandemic, this year’s Congressional Art Competition is again underway. Kelly will be accepting entries electronically while Thompson will be hosting his participants at a reception.
The Congressmen are encouraging high school students to show off their artistic talent and be critiqued by an independent panel of local artists. Winners will be announced in early May.
The artist of the winning local entry will receive two free round trip airfare tickets to Washington D.C. for an official reception of all national winners in July. Some runners up could have their artwork displayed in the offices of the local Congressmen in the Capitol or in a local gallery.
The deadline for submissions to Kelly’s office is this Wednesday while Thompson will continue accepting entries until Friday. Visit either congressman’s website for a complete list of rules and requirements.
