The Associated Press is calling the race for the 15th and 16th Congressional Districts.
Republican Glenn “G.T.” Thompson (R-PA15) was declared the winner by the AP, defeating Democrat Robert Williams on Tuesday night. There are still ballots to be counted, but Thompson currently has 76 percent of the vote. The AP then called the race for Rep. Mike Kelly on Wednesday morning.
“Thank you western Pennsylvania! I am honored that you have chosen me to be your voice in our nation’s capital. Together, we will keep fighting for freedom, our values, a brighter economic future for our families, and a stronger, more prosperous America,” Kelly said in a press release.
Gnibus also issued a statement Wednesday morning.
“It has been an incredible privilege to meet thousands of people across this district and to hear about the issues that matter to the hardworking families of Western Pennsylvania,” said Gnibus. “Thank you to everyone who joined our grassroots campaign to help make phone calls, knock doors, and get out the vote. While this was not the result we wanted, none of this would have been possible without you. We still have work to do. Our fight is not over.”
“I also want to congratulate Congressman Mike Kelly on his victory and wish him well representing this district.”
Kelly currently holds a 35 point lead over challenger Kristy Gnibus.
Meanwhile in the 17th Congressional District, Republican challenger Sean Parnell holds the lead over Democrat Conor Lamb. There’s about a 40,000 vote difference between the candidates. The AP has not made a call in that race yet.
