Congressional redistricting hearings are underway in Harrisburg.
With another lag in the state’s population growth, Pennsylvania is losing a seat in Congress—meaning that districts will have to be redrawn.
Michael Li is a law professor at New York University and he says it’s important to engage the public in the process.
“Members of the public are not experts on redistricting. Telling them what time of input you are looking for and as much detail as you can provide will help. If you tell them, ‘Tell me about your community, what the boundaries are, why it’s important.,'” Li said. “If you prompt them with questions they’ll give you better input.”
The committee plans on having a series of regional field hearings beginning next month.
