A local water way barely missed out on being named 2018 Pennsylvania River of the Year.
According to an announcement from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Loyalsock Creek in north central PA achieved the honor after a final count of online public vote.
Connoquenessing Creek finished in second place by about 700 votes but still managed to pull in over a third of the total number of votes cast.
Loyalsock Creek flows through Loyalsock State Forest and Worlds End State Park. Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper will receive a $10,000 leadership grant to help fund year-long River of the Year activities.
