A local waterway is once again in the running to be named Pennsylvania’s River of the Year.
The Connoquenessing Creek was nominated for the award which is organized by the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers.
The winner is determined by the public through an online voting contest, which can be found through the PA Watersheds website. The Connoquenessing was previously nominated for this recognition two years ago but did not win. One of the rivers in competition with the Connoquenessing this year is the Monongahela.
The Connoquenessing Creek runs through 54 miles in various parts of Butler, Beaver, and Lawrence Counties. It has been the focus of numerous cleanup efforts since the year 2000 when it was named the second most polluted waterway in America.
