Nearly two months after reaching a tentative agreement, the Mars Area School District and the teachers union continue to work on finalizing a new contract.
A representative of the education association addressed the school board during Tuesday night’s meeting and reported “unexpected delays in finalizing the language in the contract”. She also said that teachers are “anxious to see the agreement and have the opportunity to vote.”
A representative of the school board stated that draft copies have been exchanged as is the normal course of this process and the board is currently waiting for a reply from legal representation of the education association about many details and some changes that are being made.
Details of the February deal have not been made public. Mars Area School District representatives are also continuing negotiations on a new contract for members of the district’s support staff.
