The county is beginning the process of replacing the foam that is used during hazardous material responses.
The county commissioners approved a contract that will dispose of Class B foam. The move is necessary as the current foam used in emergency chemical responses contain PFAS or forever chemicals that contaminate groundwater and the environment.
Butler County is not alone in this effort as 13 other counties in the area are also planning on participating in the disposal.
Officials say that this is a gradual process as some local fire stations will still have to hold onto the previous foam so the county is not shorthanded.
The new foam is military approved Class B foam, however the purchase price is not known at this time.
