The county is recognizing today is Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy Awareness Day.
It’s also known as SUDEP, which is a rare but serious complication of epilepsy.
The Calvert family lost their daughter Molly to SUDEP in 2023. Molly’s sister Maggie says the family has spent the last two year learning and spreading the message.
“We were not expected Molly’s passing at all. We’ve spent the last two years learning what epilepsy is, what SUDEP is, and we’ve met a lot of other families who went through the same thing. They didn’t know what SUDEP was before they lost their loved one. We’re working to try and change that,” Calvert said.
The Calvert family is partnering with Vintage Coffeehouse today for a fundraiser to benefit a scholarship in Molly’s honor.
