A pay dispute between assistants of elected row officers at the county was subject to a long discussion at yesterday’s county commissioners meeting.
The county’s salary board, composed of the three commissioners, county controller Ben Holland, and each elected row officer, were involved in a discussion over the salary of the top deputies to the treasurer, recorder of deeds, clerk of courts, and prothonotary’s offices.
All of those department heads made a pitch to have their deputies salary increased, arguing that their employees have earned a raise and that the current structure doesn’t provide the necessary incentives.
While members of the salary board were open to the discussion, a recently adopted salary policy was cited as a reason to vote down the raise.
The back-and-forth between row offices and the salary board has been ongoing since the beginning of the year.
