Butler County will be rolling out new software for voters.
Commissioners approved the purchase of new “Polling Pads” which will eventually replace the binders voters sign at precincts.
County election officials say the new pads will have voters sign a digital tablet instead of signing the paper binder. The tablet will eliminate the need for alphabetical lines at precincts.
The new software will also have the ability to scan your drivers license and promptly bring up your information so voters can make the sign-in process even more efficient. However, voters will not be required to show their ID.
Officials also believe the new software will help move lines quicker during election day and make the job easier on poll workers.
“This is very user-friendly for both the voters and for poll workers,” Director of Elections Chantell McCurdy said. ”
McCurdy says the technology will also eliminate issues like people signing in the wrong spot, while also making the election bureau’s reconciliation process smoother.
The county will start with a soft rollout this spring and aims to have the polling pads ready for every precinct by this fall.
