We continue to look at the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths over the past few months at Butler Memorial Hospital to see if the numbers there continue in a downward trend.
We look at data, which comes directly from the Butler Health System, that shows how many people have been hospitalized, the number of individuals in the ICU, and how many deaths were reported to the Department of Health.
Deaths
Last month, in May, our records show that 3 people died from COVID-19 at Butler Memorial Hospital. We started seeing a decline the number of deaths each month since December, although we saw a slight spike in April. December of 2020 saw the highest number of COVID deaths in Butler County, in a month’s time since the pandemic began, with a total of 44 people.

Hospitalizations
We also looked at the number of individuals hospitalized from COVID-19 over the same time period.
Again, the highest peak of hospitalizations came in December (2020) reaching 65 individuals. In January, the numbers started to decline with that trend continuing in February. The first half of March saw numbers in the single digits, although the latter half of the month saw the number increase to 16 people in the hospital on any given day. It seemed to be like a bell curve in April where numbers increased to as high as 24 people and then decreased to 8 by month’s end. In May, the numbers would fluctuate between 2 and 15 at Butler Memorial one time.
