Now that the Food and Drug Administration as well as the Centers for Disease Control have approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for ages 5-11, the Butler Health System is preparing to host special clinics.
A First Dose Clinic will be held at Butler Memorial Hospital on Tuesday (11/9) from 4 to 7 p.m. Additional First Dose Clinics are planned for Thursday (11/11) from 4 to 7 p.m. as well as next Saturday (11/13) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
As with adult vaccines, this immunization involves two shots administered 21 days apart which would mean that second doses would begin to be administered on Tuesday, November 30th.
Unlike previous adult vaccines, the 5 to 11 year old version will administer a lower dose with each shot. A parent or legal guardian must accompany the child to the clinic and stay with the child through the observation period of 15 to 30 minutes.
Appointments for first doses can be scheduled through the BHS website which will also provide information about possible future vaccine clinic dates. Pediatric dose vaccines will only be available at these special clinics and will not be available at general vaccine clinics.
