Cranberry Township Police spent a portion of Tuesday afternoon searching for a suspicious person.
The alert for an active threat in the area of Glen Eden, Freshcorn, Powell, and Unionville Roads was issued around 1 p.m. and around 3:30 police stated that a shelter in place order was no longer active.
A large number of law enforcement personnel were observed in the area looking for a person only described as “wearing a Washington football shirt and/or hat.” Residents were asked to lock their doors and call 911 if they saw the person.
Officials later stated that employees of the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course found a disabled vehicle on a private roadway on golf course property around 10 a.m. Tuesday. A lone male occupant stated he was having car issues but was not speaking coherently.
The employees noticed weapons in the vehicle and informed police. When officers arrived, the vehicle was empty but they were able to determine that the vehicle was a rental. Police confirmed weapons in the car as well as notes described as “concerning” that indicated mental instability as well as the possibility of harm to self or others.
Neighboring agencies such as the FBI were brought in for assistance and the course was cleared of golfers and employees. The man was eventually located in a wooded area along Freshcorn Road at which time police said that he was “no longer a threat to the community.”
