Emergency responders in southern Butler County were busy with a couple of accidents Friday afternoon.
The first call came into the Butler County 911 Center at 3 p.m. for a crash involving multiple vehicles on Route 228 near the entrance to the Cranberry Commons shopping center. At least one vehicle was smoking and one person was initially entrapped with injury.
Then shortly before 3:30 p.m. another crash was reported on Interstate 79 northbound in Cranberry Township. A vehicle rolled over multiple times and landed in the median. At least one person was reported to be entrapped in that vehicle and a helicopter was placed on standby.
This crash has resulted in the shutdown of a portion of I79 southbound for an indefinite amount of time. Motorists should avoid the area near Route 528 if possible. Cranberry Township crews responded to both incidents along with assistance from Adams Township and Harmony EMS.
