The Chicago Cubs swept a two-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates following a 4-2 victory Tuesday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Oneil Cruz hit a two-run home run for the Pirates runs with starting pitcher Bryse Wilson the tough-luck loser. He allowed the Cubs three runs in the first inning, but tossed five scoreless after that. His record fell to 1-6. The Pirates managed just four hits in the game.
The victory was the Cubs sixth win in a row, and the Bucs have fallen to 17 games under .500 at 40-58 overall, Chicago has now moved into third place in the National League Central Division, a half-game in front of Pittsburgh.
The Pirates are off today, then open a seven-game home stand Thursday with the first of four games with Philadelphia.
Since being sent to Triple-A Indianapolis, outfielder Jack Suwinski has not improved his average much. He is batting .190 — but he has hit three home runs. Two in one game — and yesterday hit a grand slam.
