U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson will host an agriculture and dairy summit Monday highlighting the United States Department of Agriculture’s new Dairy Margin coverage program.
The event will begin this morning at Mt. Aloysius College in Cresson (central PA).
Thompson- who represents about half of the residents in Butler County- will be joined by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, PA Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding, and Penn State Extension Dairy Educator Andrew Sandeen.
The new Dairy Margin Coverage program was authorized in the 2018 Farm Bill and was developed to help dairy producers manage the volatility of milk and feed prices. The program offers protection to dairy producers when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed cost falls below a certain dollar amount.
