Dan Catalfano, Jr., age 69, of Butler, passed away unexpectedly on Sat., Oct. 30, 2021.
Born in Butler on May 15, 1952, he was the son of the late Daniel Catalfano, Sr. and Gloria Mancino Catalfano.
Dan is survived by the love of his life, Marilyn Yon Catalfano, whom he married Aug. 2, 1975. He is also survived by two daughters, Nikki Catalfano and Lori Brady; one son, Chris (Amanda) Catalfano; and two grandchildren, Alexander and Gabrielle Catalfano, all of Butler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Catalfano.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church.
Dan attended Butler High School, graduating in the Class of 1971. He studied Education at Slippery Rock University and was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity.
He worked at Armco for many years, and he was employed as an educator for the Butler Area School District and also by Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV at Clarence Brown School.
Dan was known for his love of baseball. He played the game his entire childhood and adolescent years. After college, he was set to play for the Cincinnati Reds until a shattering knee injury ended his career before it had the chance to begin. Dan’s love of baseball was apparent to all who knew him. “Coach Cat” coached the sport for many years, from little leagues through various Butler High School teams. He was a well-respected coach who impacted many athletes. The position of catcher was his favorite – a legacy his grandson Alex and granddaughter Gabbi carry on today at Butler High School.
Family meant everything to Dan. He loved them tremendously and was proud of each of them, and he looked forward to any chance to be together. He enjoyed cheering on the grandkids at every game they played. Family vacations at the beach and Christmas were his favorite times of the year.
Dan had an infectious smile which was so soulful and dear. Everyone knew Dan. Everybody! His family would often hear many wonderful stories of him growing up told by his many friends.
Dan was a huge part of the lives of so many. Nothing was more important to him than the relationships with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler, on Tuesday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
A Blessing Service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
