Dana Byers

Dana Byers, 76, of Fairless Hills, PA, peacefully departed on March 7th, 2024 in Windsor, CT, surrounded by the warmth of love from cherished family and friends and has now reunited with his late wife Gail in heaven. Born on June 12, 1947, to the late Gene and Blanche Byers, Dana’s journey was one marked by love, adventure, and a deep appreciation for life and family.

Dana’s path led him to Lycoming College, where fate introduced him to the love of his life, Gail Byers. He graduated from Penn State with a degree in aeronautical engineering. Uniting in matrimony on May 16, 1970, Dana and Gail moved to Enfield, CT and began to build their life together, raising two children, Bonnie and Julie. Dana found joy in the simple pleasures of canoeing, hiking, badminton, bowling, and he especially loved playing international rummy. He also loved returning home after vacations, taking walks during TV commercials, and he never turned down chocolate chip cookies (or cake or pie or boston cream donuts). He relished the milestones of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and frequently attended their school concerts, sporting events, and graduations. He enjoyed working with his hands and he was able to express his love of home improvement by personally accomplishing several major renovation projects on his Enfield home.

In his professional life, Dana served as a bus driver, navigating the daily round trip from Hartford to New York City until his well-deserved retirement. He would even occasionally take his children or grandchildren with him and make the trip an exciting adventure. As a devoted member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, he lovingly tended to the church lawn for many years, was active on the Calvary building and grounds committee, and he also served as a deacon exemplifying his commitment to community and faith. Embracing retirement, he spent 12 enriching years in Georgetown, KY. As a member of First United Methodist Church, Dana continued to find solace and community.

Dana is survived by his brother, Lale, his children Bonnie and Julie, grandchildren Christine, Thomas, Jason, Nicholas, Anderson, and Evan, and great-grandchildren Melody and Maya.

Dana showed by example and strength of his actions his commitment to his family, his religious beliefs, and his community. Though when all else failed, you could always count on his very dry sense of humor. Throughout his life, Dana demonstrated remarkable strength as a long-time survivor of Parkinson’s disease. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests considering a donation in his honor to a charity supporting Parkinson’s disease research/treatment or a cause close to your heart.

Dana Byers leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
