Daniel E. Musko, of Butler, passed away on Monday September 23, 2024 at the age of 76. He requested to write his own remarks about his life. They are as follows:
I’m writing my own obituary because I want it to be personal for all of you. Born, raised, educated and my career has all taken place in Butler County. Graduating in 1965 from Butler Area High School and subsequently from Slippery Rock University, I started my career working for the Boy Scouts of America in Butler for ten years. Those were the good days of scouting, but I was searching for a way to serve my community. In 1978, the Board of Directors of the then Easter Seal Society (now Lifesteps) offered me the position as Executive Director. There began a 25 year career as President and CEO advancing the agency to a ten county health and human services organization with hundreds of staff and volunteers. I received numerous local, state, and national awards, but none were more important than knowing I was helping individuals and families who needed our services. I often said that my paydays were when someone would say to me how much Lifesteps had helped their child, son or daughter, or ageing loved one. That sense of purpose sustained my life goals. Along the way there were so many caring staff, dedicated Board Members and so many, so many community friends and leaders who made it all possible who I sincerely thank. I could not have asked for more. Those who followed in my footsteps have done credit to all that I was able to accomplish. As I rest in heaven with Jesus, I can hear him say “well done good and faithful servant.”
I was blessed to spend 43 years with my loving wife, Cindy (Shakley). A better wife no man could ask for. Ryan Morton (Cindy), my step-son, raised three lovable grandchildren that I adored; Ethan, Brynn and Noah Morton.
My parents were Paul and Nellie Musko, now deceased. I had four brothers, Richard (Linda) Musko, Kenneth (Sandy) Musko, George (Karen) Musko and Thomas Musko. Like any large family, there were many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Until my parents passing, we would all congregate every Sunday after church at the family home and enjoy lunch. Having that time to catch up on each others lives, accomplishments, and heart aches bonded us all together. My parents had only one request; “We want all you boys to get along together.” We all honored that request as I say goodbye and I loved you all.
