Daryl L. Betz, 102, of Renfrew, PA, passed away on May, 1, 2025, at Concordia at Cabot.
Born in Oil City, PA, on April 24, 1923, he was the son of the Luther S. and Iva V. Betz.
He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and was asked to form the Good News Sunday School Class, which he taught for 38 years. He had also served as president of the Congregation Council for two terms, was a member of the Council for several years, and served on various committees. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers of America, AARP and the American Legion. He and his wife were former members of the Keystone Squares and enjoyed outdoor activities and traveling.
Mr. Betz was a graduate of Kittanning High School and Kittanning Business College. He served in the Medical Detachment of the 710th Tank Battalion of the Armed Forces from 1943 to 1946 and was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving in the Palau Islands in the South Pacific. In addition, he was in combat in the Philippine Islands.
After his discharge from the service, he was employed by the Butler Veterans Hospital. His career path then led to employment by the Ophthalmology Associates in Sewickley, PA, as a certified Ophthalmology Technician and Supervisor of the optical shop, having retired in 1989.
Mr. Betz was predeceased by one sister, Virginia R. Coffindaffer of Morgantown, WV and by his loving wife, Eleanor R. (Holly) Betz, whom he married on May 14, 1946. Surviving are his beloved daughter, Karen R. Betz of Cranberry Township, PA and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Young Funeral Home, Ltd., 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, on Monday, May 6, 2025 from 2-6PM.
Services will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 201 West Jefferson St., Butler, PA 16001 on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 11AM with Rev. David Phillips officiating.
Military Honors will follow in the Butler County Memorial Park, Butler, PA.
