The Butler County District Attorney is applying for a grant that would help them create a position focused on learning more about gun violence.
Rich Goldinger says that county law enforcement agencies can tap into millions of dollars in grant funding that are available to help with initiatives to curb gun violence.
His department is asking for around $273,000 that would go toward a position that focuses on firearm investigation. He says that while gun violence and overall crime is down, they have seen an uptick in the number of illegal guns coming into the county.
Goldinger says this position would help record gun data in a more streamlined fashion for the county.
