“Life goes on…”
An ironic way to begin an obituary, but those who knew David Hugh Kerr will recognize these seemingly innocuous words as his mantra. David passed away on November 11, 2023, much in the same way that he lived…on his own terms, electing to enter hospice care rather than undergo treatment that would merely elongate his time on this earth without his beloved wife, Georgiann.
David possessed an indomitable entrepreneurial spirit, throwing himself into unique business ventures with fervor and tenacity. Blending this business acumen with his passion for books and thirst for knowledge, David made a name for himself in the rare books’ community by trailblazing an early internet presence with his online bookstore, Hugh Kerr Rare Books.
A lifelong chess enthusiast, David’s passion for the game lives on in the openings, gambits, and endgame strategies he drilled with his three sons.
David is survived by his four siblings, T. Michael, Ellen, Marian, and Sarah, his three sons, Patrick, Benjamin, and Jareth, and his loyal dog Popcorn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Jean, and his beloved wife, Reda Georgiann Kerr.
Unapologetically committed to marching to the beat of his own drum, David affected all within his orbit…whether they wished it or not. And while some may initially draw negative connotation from this, let us not forget that a wave is to the ocean what a ripple is to a pond. All lives ripple, but David’s was a life of tidal proportions. True to his words, life will go on without him, but David’s impact will resonate for generations to come. A fitting final move. Check and mate.
