David L. McCall, 94, formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Care Center in Mars, PA. He was born December 2, 1929, in Penn Hills, PA to the late John B. and Esther R. (Fennell) McCall. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dolores E. (Schwartz) McCall, his beloved son, Robert L. McCall, brother John A. McCall and sister Edith E. Young. David was a graduate of Penn High School and a Korean War combat veteran, Corporal, US Army, radio operator. Dave spent his working career as superintendent of Mt. Hope Cemetery, Penn Hills, and Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, PA. He was a past president of the Cemetery Association of Pennsylvania. Dave was a loving and kind man with a dry sense of humor, who was happiest spending time with family and friends. No matter where he went- he never left a stranger. He loved bluegrass music and had a passion for motorcycling. In his younger years he raced in many jack pines and rode his favorite Triumph and Honda motorcycles well into his eighties. Our family has many fond memories of canoe and camping trips, Sunday drives (never come home the same way you came) and family get togethers. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours on his yard and trees. Dave was also a fine carpenter, building beautiful pieces for family and friends. David is survived by his daughter, Kathryn A. Weir (Mark), Rochester, PA, his grandchildren, Laura L. Kalaras (Michael) Secane, PA and Thomas M. Weir (Kristin Yahner) Pittsburgh, PA. In addition, he is also survived by his great granddaughters, Mila K. Kalaras and Stella C. Kalaras as well as several nieces and nephews.
