Dave attended East Brady High School. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in Germany and in Vietnam. He was in Vietnam from 1969 til 1970 and worked in the United States Mortuary in DaNang. He was proud to serve his country. After the service he worked at the glass plant in Parker, he was then employed at Witco/Sonneborn and became the Chief Hydro Operator. He worked their from 1973 until retiring in 2012.
Dave leaves to cherish his memory by his wife of 53 years, Nancy (Barger) Johns of Chicora, having just celebrated their anniversary on June 28th; his daughter Rebecca and her husband Alan Visnyai-of Elyria, Ohio; 3 sons David Johns and his girlfriend Amanda Deal of Chicora; William and his wife Stephanie Johns of Karns City; Ronald and his wife Amanda Johns of Dearborn, Michigan; his 13 grandchildren-his twin grandsons, Michael and Gregory Visnyai; Sabrina Johns and her boyfriend, Brock Allshouse; and David, Sarah, Dominick, Jasmine, and Scarlet Johns; Annabel and Elizabeth Johns; and Mason, Juliana and Oliver Johns. Also surviving are his 2 brothers: Robert Johns and his girlfriend Kathy Lockwood of Hallton, and Terry and Mary Johns of Kittanning and his brother-in-law, David Krizmanich of Kittanning, and many aunts, uncles and cousins; a sister-in-law, Shirley and James Hankey of Hernando, Fla. His brother-in-law, Timothy Barger and Beth Johns of Kittanning. He is also survived by his step-mother-in-law, Joan Barger and her family of Karns City.
Dave along with his wife, Nancy, loved to travel, driving to 49 states. He was a photographer at heart and enjoyed taking pictures of everything, especially of all kinds of wildlife-and of the Bald Eagles at Goddard State Park.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, his brothers; Raymond and Edward Johns, and his sister Frances Krizmanich, his sisters-in-law, Georjane Johns, and Linda Johns, and numerous relatives. He was, also, preceded in death by his Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Howard and Nellie Barger, his niece, Kimberly Swingle, and his baby grandson, Jeremiah Johns.
