The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has formalized a policy on electric bicycles at state parks.
The policy requires that e-bikes weigh no more than 100 pounds, have motors that don’t exceed 750 watts, and have fully functional pedals.
DCNR spokesperson Christina Novak says that e-bikes must also drive at safe speeds through parks.
“The Pennsylvania vehicle code actually requires that they do not exceed 20 miles per hour using a motor,” Novak said. “We ask that e-bike users, as well as traditional bike users, be conscientious of other people and trail users. Always drive at safe speeds.”
Novak says the DCNR had over 600 public comments on the policy, which led to a couple of minor changes to the final rules.
