A local woman’s love of animals will be remembered as part of a unique ceremony planned for this weekend at the Butler County Humane Society.
A plaque and bench in memory of Kristine Stevenson Bartman will be dedicated on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the society on Evans City Road in Renfrew. The public is invited to attend.
Bartman was an officer with the Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police Department who died in a motorcycle accident in July of 2016 while off-duty in Pittsburgh.
This is the first time a bench has been purchased and dedicated in someone’s memory at the Butler County Humane Society, according to Executive Director Jennifer DiCuccio.
“From speaking with Kristine’s family and spending time with them, she was an animal-lover at her core,” DiCuccio said. “It was really her dream one day to open up a rescue of her own.”
In recent months, Kristine’s family donated $12,000 to the humane society that went towards medical care for the animals. They also purchased a beautiful bench in her honor.’
“It reads…’It loving memory of Kristine Stevenson Bartman. Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains un-awakened,'” DiCuccio said.
The bench will be located in the front of the building in a quiet area where volunteers spend time socializing with the animals at the shelter.
