Work is expected to begin soon on a former local restaurant that was destroyed by fire in February.
Rick’s Taproom and Grill on Meridian Road has been vacant since that incident but that doesn’t mean nothing is happening.
According to Butler Township Zoning Officer Jesse Hines, since the building was condemned he has been in contact with the legal counsel for the owners. The contract for demolition has been awarded and a study about asbestos was done last week. That report is expected to be released this Friday and the contractor will know what protective measures that the DEP is mandating. The township will then issue the demolition permit and the property could be cleared in a couple days.
The Reiber family purchased the restaurant in 1998—renaming it W. Rick’s Taproom and Grill. The establishment has served as a staple in the Meridian area, previously as the Meridian Inn and J.D.’s Pub.
