The State’s Department of Environmental Protection says that after a year of sampling, there have been no traces of contamination in Western PA from the East Palestine train derailment.
The DEP says that their sampling, combined with that of an independent contractor found no evidence of water or soil contamination.
Following the derailment last February, three sentinel monitoring wells were installed in Pennsylvania near the derailment location. These wells are used for early detection of groundwater contamination. So far, officials say that water has not been impacted.
Officials also say they will continue to test water and soil in the region.
