The State Department of Agriculture is once again holding its spotted lanternfly poster contest.
The contest is open for students in the first through eighth grade.
Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Shannon Powers says this contest brings awareness to a number of Pennsylvania students about the threats the spotted lanternfly poses to the state.
“Last year, more than 800 kids participating in this contest,” Powers said. “They learned about the threats that spotted laternflies pose to our businesses, economy, and just our general quality of life.”
The spotted lanternfly attacks fruit trees, grapes, hops, and hardwood. The invasive bug has been isolated to Southeastern PA so far—but they can move easily.
The contest runs until October 31st. Info can be found on the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s website.
