Butler Township administrators are not considering replacing the Dek Hockey Rink with more pickleball courts.
Rumors began circulating online this week that the township was going to add more pickleball courts at Butler Township Park by replacing the dek hockey rink.
There is no plan. There has not been anything conceived about replacing the dek hockey rink with pickleball courts,” Butler Township manager Tom Knights said. “I’m honestly unsure of the origin of anything related to that at this time.”
Butler Township owns the dek hockey facility but does not administer the league. Instead the township contracts with a third party organizer who has run the league for the last three years and maintains liability insurance to cover league participants.
“It’s all about the organizer of the league. The organizer of the league has access to the dek hockey rink for league purposes. When the league is not using the rink, maybe one or two days a week, it’s open for open play,” Knights said.
Knights went on to say that the dek hockey rink located on South Eberhardt Road will continue to be a recreation option for local residents for the foreseeable future.
