A major sporting goods retailer is laying off members of its workforce.
Dick’s Sporting Goods announced earlier this week that it was cutting about 10 percent of its corporate staff.
Company officials did not give an exact number of jobs cut, but it’s estimated that hundreds were laid off.
Part of the reason for the layoffs according to executives was an increasing amount of theft in their stores. While net sales grew over the last year, overall profits were down.
After an inventory evaluation, Dick’s officials say they learned how big of a role thefts played in their down numbers—a number they said was much higher than they anticipated.
