The Diocese of Pittsburgh says that parishioners need to follow the guidance for Good Friday despite it being the home opener for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In a statement yesterday, the diocese says they have received questions about whether the Church will offer dispensation from fast and abstinence on Good Friday because of the Pirates game.
Diocese leaders say Good Friday is unlike any other Friday during the year and that nothing else should take precedence, so they are asking individuals to practice fasting and abstinence.
They also say the Diocese will be rooting for a Pirates win that day.
