Diocese of Pittsburgh leaders say they are focused on security of Catholic schools and churches following yesterday’s mass shooting in Minnesota.
Bishop Mark Eckman spoke with reporters yesterday where he emphasized the Diocese’s commitment to safety.
“We want to assure our parents, to the best of our ability, that their child’s welfare and safety is our top concern,” Eckman said. “We have officers in our schools just to protect as much as we can.”
Eckman says the Diocese’s safety director is continuing to monitor developments and is staying in close contact with law enforcement.
“You can’t predict any situation like this, but we will try to anticipate as much as we can to have safety for our kids,” Eckman said.
He also the Diocese is holding “close in prayer the students, families, teachers, parish community and first responders.”
