The state’s Roman Catholic dioceses have paid nearly $84 million to victims of sexual abuse, according to a new report by the Associated Press.
Seven of the eight dioceses, including Pittsburgh, launched victim compensation funds in the wake of the grand jury report on sexual abuse in the Catholic church.
The AP review says 564 people have received compensation. And while the exact number of how much the Diocese of Pittsburgh has paid to victims is unknown, the AP says the average payout to a victim across all dioceses has been about $150,000.
