The distributions of assistance grants for volunteer fire departments are now underway across the state.
These funds are administered by the state and Chief Forest Warden Mike Kern explains what they can be used for.
“The main goal of the program is to give fire departments some financial assistance to purchase protective equipment or maybe enhance the equipment they have,” Kern said. “But, it’s a 50/50 cost share grant.”
Kern also said that the pandemic has halted traditional fundraisers for these organizations, making this grant program even more important.
