The Butler County District Attorney is warning residents about a phone scam targeting physicians and other professionals.
Rich Goldinger says the caller ID is the Butler County Sheriff’s main office line. The scammer identifies themselves as a detective and says the person has been subpoenaed for a court proceeding.
They then add that since the person didn’t appear, there is now a warrant for their arrest. But they can resolve the issue by sending gift cards.
The DA says that you should immediately hang up and call the sheriff’s office. He also adds that you should never give anyone gift cards or electronic payments over the phone.
