The Butler Area School District looked to a regional networking group to address a unique teacher shortage.
According to administrators, the district’s German language program faced a critical situation shortly after the year began when both teachers were forced to miss time with extended absences.
The district had considered a cyber solution for many of the students registered for German, but instead was able to find a connection through the Pittsburgh chapter of the German American Chamber of Commerce.
A native German speaker has been approved to fill in as a sub on an emergency basis and will teach several classes of German I at the Butler Intermediate High School. The new teacher does have educational experience but it is outside of Pennsylvania public schools.
