The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-2 Sunday. The Bucs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning behind back-to-back home runs by Andrew McCutchen and Enmanuel Valdez, but did not score after that inning despite McCutchen going 4-for-4 in the game. The Dodgers responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Pirates starting pitcher Bailey Falter fell to 1-3 this season after allowing seven runs, five earned over his 4-1/3rd innings.
After beginning the three game series with a 3-0 win Friday night behind the pitching of Paul Skenes, the Pirates lost two of three games in the series. The Dodgers won Saturday’s night’s game 8-4. The Pirates went 3-3 on their road trip to the Los Angeles area. They are off today and host the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night.
The Pirates are 11-18 overall and have the second-worst record in the National League.
