The Los Angeles Dodgers have won baseball’s World Series following a 7-6 comeback victory over the New York Yankees last night in Game 5. The Dodgers won the best-of-seven series 4-1. New York had taken a 5-0 lead through the first four innings of the game, and Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole had a no-hitter through those first four innings. The Dodgers rally began in the fifth inning following two Yankees errors which allowed Los Angeles to tie the game. New York took a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning, but the Dodgers scored two runs in the eighth inning to take the series. Walker Buehler, who was the Game 3 starting pitcher for the Dodgers, struck out two of three Yankees batters in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn a save.
The five-run comeback was the largest ever to decide a World Series, and was the eighth title for the Dodgers franchise. They have won seven since leaving Brooklyn.
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman saw his home run streak end at six straight World Series games last night, but he was named the series Most Valuable Player. Freeman had home runs in the first four games of the series and drove in 12 runs. Freeman had a single and drove in two runs last night.
