A Mercer County woman who allegedly participated in the Capitol riot is now in custody.
Department of Justice officials say Rachel Powell of Sandy Lake was taken in custody last night in New Castle.
According to the criminal complaint, prosecutors have detailed video and photos of Powell at the Capitol building on January 6th. They lay out evidence showing Powell with a bullhorn giving detailed instructions to a group of rioters of how to “take this building.”
She’s also allegedly seen being a part of a group that used a large pipe as a battering ram to break a Capitol building window.
Among the charges Powell is facing includes obstruction and depredation of government property among other charges.
She is scheduled to appear in court later today.
Powell does have ties to the Butler County area, saying in an interview with the New Yorker that she moved to West Sunbury with her family when she was 15. Since that time she has resided in Western PA.
