Donald J. “Donny” Stewart, 36, of Chicora, formerly of Butler, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 22, 2018 as a result of an automobile accident.
Donny was born in Butler on September 17, 1981. He was the son of Babette Fleeger Stewart of Chicora and the late Thomas D. “Stew” Stewart.
He was a 2000 graduate of Butler High School.
Donny enjoyed sports, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Most recently he found peace and tranquility in writing poetry, crafting, and gardening. He was active with the Suicide Prevention Awareness Committee of Butler County and recently founded the nonprofit organization, @Reachout831. Donny recently graduated from Drug Court in Butler County and was employed as a peer specialist with Community Resource Center in Butler.
In addition to his mother, Donny is survived by four siblings, Debra Girvin and her husband, Bill, of Richmond, VA, Tom Stewart and his wife, Michelle, of Butler, Jim Stewart and his wife, Kristen, of Cowansville, and Chrissy Ritzert and her husband, Ryan, of Chicora; three nephews, Sage Wagner, Blaze Ritzert, and Waylon Stewart; three nieces, Erin Wagner and Piper and Ziva Stewart; his maternal grandparents, Jim and Pat Fleeger of Chicora; his special friend, Kara Kerschbaumer of Chicora, as well as a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
In addition to his father, Donny was preceded in death by a sister, Renee Wagner.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Friday. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Paul DeBacco, pastor of Criswell Bible Baptist Church, officiating.
