Donald W. Black, 95, of Cabot, formerly of Butler, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Concordia at Cabot.
Born in Butler on February 11, 1930, he was a son of the late Frank R. Black, Sr. and Leota Wonderly Black.
He was a member of North Butler Presbyterian Church.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Don served during the Korean Conflict.
Don was the owner/operator of the Esso/Exxon service station in Bon-Aire for 47 years. He was also employed for many years at Sedan Service Company in Butler, and he was the longtime caretaker of North Butler Presbyterian Cemetery.
He is survived by one son, Donald “Rick” Black and his wife, Marguerite; one daughter, Sherrie Black; five grandchildren, Marcie Stoops, Joshua Black and his wife, Rebecca, Tiffanie Hans and her husband, Brian, Lyndsey Smith and her husband, Jason, and Kylie Salkeld and her husband, Chris; 11 great-grandchildren. Caleb Traggiai, Caden Traggiai, Lillie Hans, Carsen Traggiai, Hunter Hans, Kinsley Smith, Bryson Smith, Olivia Black, Liam Kirk, Haleigh Salkeld, and MaKayla Salkeld; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cleora “Cleo” Eleanor Bacher Black, whom he married Nov. 23, 1951, and who passed away Dec. 29, 2022; and three brothers and one sister.
The Black family thanks the staff of Concordia at Cabot for the loving, professional care provided to Don.
Friends will be received on Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at North Butler Presbyterian Church, 137 N. Butler Church Rd., Chicora.
The funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the church, with Rev. Mary Kitchen officiating.
Burial will take place in North Butler Presbyterian Cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded at the church by VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 778, and VFW Post 499.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to North Butler Presbyterian Church, 137 N. Butler Rd., Chicora, PA 16025.
