Doris Jean (Bodesheim) Thorne (84) was the daughter of Charles and Evelyn Bodesheim of Butler, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Butler High School and embarked on a career with the Nationwide Insurance company. After meeting her future husband, James Thorne, she changed her career to be a wife and mother.
A dedicated life-partner to her husband Jim, she edited his dissertation for the University of Pittsburgh and provided classroom assistance to him throughout his educational career.
She was active in every church they joined. Jim’s work took them to live in many different communities, and she will be remembered for her knowledge of the scriptures and work as a teacher in Women’s Ministry wherever she went.
For several years, she was a spiritual “Mom” to many of the local young people of Grove City and students from Grove City College through her partnership with Jim in the “Homestead” fellowship-a Christian outreach home ministry.
Doris lived out her strong Christian faith each day of her life, and she impacted many of the lives of those around her. She will be fondly remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, but also as a great mentor, neighbor, spiritual leader, and friend who helped to make this world a better place.
Doris is survived by her daughter Suann (Ray) Martell, son Dr. James (Mary) Thorne, grandchildren Jeanette (Justin) Lovern and Daniel (Kellie) Martell, and great-grandson Holland Lovern, a brother Charles (Linda) Bodesheim, a sister MaryAnn (James) Paserba, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Saturday, June 13, 2020 from 1 pm until time of service at 2 pm at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA 16001 with Rev. Jack Hartman of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Doris requested donations to the James D. Thorne Education Award, care of Grove City College, Grove City, Pennsylvania.
